Mr. Harry Ware DeMille, III, 84, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2010. Born November 1, 1925, he was the only child of Harry Ware DeMille, Jr. of Tallahassee, FL and Vashti Benoist Marlowe of Savannah, GA. Harry attended Morningside Elementary before graduating from Boys High in 1943. Harry was a World War II veteran, serving in the U. S. Army Air Corps as a B-25 crew chief. Mr. DeMille graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelors Degree in 1950 and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He remained a proud alumni his entire life. After a 37 year career, Harry retired as an Account Executive with Sentry Insurance. Mr. DeMille’s passion was scouting. He earned the Eagle Scout Award, Silver Beaver Award, District Award of Merit, and the God and Service Award. He spent 65 years as a volunteer leader, serving Troop 8 in Ansley Park as a Scout and Scout Master and in various capacities with Troop 175 in Decatur. Mr. DeMille was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janet Claire Smith DeMille on Friday, January 1, 2010. Surviving him are his children and their spouses, Harry and Alice DeMille, Carol D. Bridges, Donald and Jennifer DeMille, David and Ruslana DeMille; grandchildren, Dale Bridges, Benjamin DeMille; brother-in-law, Jack M. Smith, Jr. and family and his cousin, Dan Plaster and family. A memorial service will be held at North Decatur Presbyterian Church, where Mr. DeMille was a member, on Friday, March 5th at 4:00 PM.
