Harry Wayne Farmer, age 88, passed on from this Earth to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven on December 26, 2016. He will be forever loved and cherished by his wife of 66 years, Joanna, and his family. Born and raised in Anderson, Indiana, Harry attended Anderson High School where he was a starting player on the 1946 State Champion basketball team. He later attended Butler University on a football scholarship and graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration. Shortly thereafter, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Alys Joanna Heiney on September 8, 1950. Drafted into the Army during the Korean War, Harry became a commissioned officer and served honorably in the 81st Airborne Anti-Aircraft battalion as a gun platoon leader. After a long career in financial services which included creating and running a successful investment advisory firm, Harry and Joanna retired to Jekyll Island, GA, and then onto Sautee Nacoochee, Ga. A man of faith who loved and served the Lord, Harry was an active church member his entire life, most recently attending Nacoochee United Methodist Church.
Remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, Harry is survived by his wife Joanna; his children: David and his wife, Carol, Becky Lamb and her husband, Martin, and Dan and his wife, Becky; his grandchildren, Marc, Gina, Laura, Joanna, Cal, Kenny and Rachel; his great grandsons, Andy and Braydon; and his sister, Barbara Voss.
A memorial service honoring his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 30, at Nachoochee United Methodist Church, Sautee-Nacoochee, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, Decatur, Georgia.
