Hazel Lois Hall Adams, age 90, passed away peacefully December 13, 2016 after a courageous battle with congestive heart disease. Despite a multitude of medical adversities, Hazel had a strong will to live and an unwavering faith in God. She was known for her knack for conversation, even with strangers, and for her charming personality. She was compared by many to a diamond – multi-faceted, sparkling, and precious. She had a loving and generous heart and was always giving to others. Hazel's hobbies included arts and crafts (which she especially loved engaging in with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren), making her famous homemade pickles to give as gifts, and spending time with her family and friends.
Hazel was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 71 years, Buford Adams; her son, Stephen Ray Adams, a combat Marine and Vietnam veteran; and her grandson, Bryan Wesley Deal.
Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Hazel and Buford lived for 50 years in Chamblee, Georgia before retiring to Big Canoe, Georgia. She was heavily involved in her children's activities all their lives and the friends of her children always gravitated to the Adams' house. She seemed to "collect" children, and many to this day call her "Other Mother" to her utter delight. Hazel was a resident of Budd Terrace at Wesley Woods at the time of her death.
She is survived by three daughters: Brenda Adams Nesmith of Statesboro, GA; Jean Adams Weathers and son-in-law, Dr. Dwight R. Weathers of Lilburn, GA; and Linda Adams Voyles and son-in-law, Jackie Voyles of Buford, GA; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on December 28, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Smoke Rise Baptist Church, 5901 Hugh Howell Road, Stone Mountain, GA. The service will be conducted by Dr. John Reale of Fredericksburg, Virginia, former Pastor at Foothills Community Church, and Dr. Chris George, Pastor at Smoke Rise Baptist Church. Interment will take place on December 29, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, where Mrs. Adams's remains will be buried next to her husband, a World War II Veteran.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Adams's memory to Foothills Community Church, 13724 Highway 53E, Marble Hill, Georgia 30148 or to the Good Shepherd Clinic of Dawson County, 452 Highway 53E, Suite 1009, Dawsonville, Ga 30534.
