Helen Joan Amendola von Waldner of Tucker, Georgia, died January 7, 2020 in Decatur, Georgia. She was born in New York City on March 3, 1933 to Marjorie Pitts Amendola and Roy Victor Amendola who preceded her in death. She was raised by her Aunt Maggie Pitts Williams and Uncle Fred Williams, living with them and Uncle Fred’s younger brother Charles R. Williams on a farm in Newborn Georgia. Helen graduated from The Napsonian School in Atlanta in 1950 and earned some college credits with Agnes Scott College in Decatur. She was married in Atlanta to Frank F. von Waldner, Jr. on December 10, 1954, and gave birth to her daughter Donna Helene von Waldner (Raposa) in 1955 and her son Eric F. von Waldner in 1958. Helen worked in various temporary positions as a sales or file clerk and as a substitute teacher. She was a full-time employee of Scientific Atlanta as an accounts payable clerk from 1978 to 1998 when she retired with 20 years service. Helen was widowed when her husband Frank died January 15, 2002. She is survived by her daughter Donna V. Raposa, her son Eric F. von Waldner, daughter-in-law Charmaine M. von Waldner, grandson Alexander (Alex) F. Raposa, his fiancée Lauren I. Anderson, many loving cousins and other relatives, and countless loving friends. Helen led a beautiful, inspiring life of service despite many challenges, with leadership roles in her children’s PTA organizations, the Georgia Federation of Republican Women, the Central Dekalb Republican Women’s group, the Tucker Civic Association, and was very active in her congregation. Her Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2020, at 3pm at her beloved Congregation Beth Adonai, 4141 Bancroft Circle, Tucker, Georgia 30084.
