Helen Pappas Bledsoe, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on September 16, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Gregory H. and Bessie Smith Pappas of Eufaula, AL. She was born September 24, 1929. Her childhood involved both work in the family grocery store and restaurant and play as she experienced many hunting and fishing adventures with her brothers. Helen was a graduate of Auburn University where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. An adventurous spirit led her to Yellowstone National Park to work in Old Faithful Lodge for two summers. Upon graduation, she taught first grade in Columbus, GA before returning to Eufaula to manage Pappas Restaurant. Helen married the late Woodrow Wilson Bledsoe of Georgetown, GA in 1961 and moved to Atlanta. She attended Emory University Law School for one year before starting a family and becoming a full-time parent. Helen was involved in many civic and church activities including teaching third grade Sunday school and leading Girl Scouts. Her greatest joy, other than her family, came from music, whether it was playing the piano, singing in the choir, attending the symphony, or listening to her huge collection of vinyl records. Helen and Woody lived in Stone Mountain for forty years until his death in 2008. At that time, she moved to McDonough to live with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandsons. Having children in her daily life renewed her spirit. She was a kind and generous person who was a faithful daughter, devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and steadfast friend. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Gregory H. and Bessie Vera Smith Pappas of Eufaula, AL; her husband of 47 years, Woodrow Wilson Bledsoe of Stone Mountain, GA; her sister, Zafero Pappas Paterson of Wilmington, NC; her brothers, Venezelos Pappas, Christie Pappas, and William Pappas all of Eufaula, AL, and Raymond Pappas of Enterprise, AL. She is survived by her daughter, Helen Bledsoe Adkins and son-in-law, Chris Adkins of McDonough, GA and her three grandsons, Camden Adkins, Carter Adkins and Elliott Adkins. The family will receive friends at A.S. Turner and Sons on Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm and at Chapman Funeral Home in Eufaula, AL on Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm CST. A graveside service will be held at the Georgetown Cemetery in Georgetown, GA on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11:00 am EST with Dr. Kermit Soileau officiating. A. S.
