Helen Galloway Jones, 86, died peacefully at Hospice Atlanta on May 1, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, David 0. Jones, Sr. and her son, David 0. Jones, Jr. She will be missed by her daughter, Harriett E. Jones, her son Phillip E. Jones, her daughter-in-law, Frankey Jones, her granddaughters, Rebecca and Emily, and a host of other family members and friends. Helen was born in Fayette, Alabama on October 1, 1922. She studied nutrition at Howard College (now Samford University) before her marriage, and her love of cooking continued until her health no longer permitted. The family moved to Albany, Georgia in 1954 where she and Dave were charter members of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church. She was active in community organizations, enjoyed caring for her family and friends, and retired after working for Life of Georgia for many years. In 1990, she moved to Decatur to be close to her children and grandchildren. At the time of her death, she was a member of Decatur First United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 4, at 11:00 a.m., at Friendship Primitive Baptist Church, located at Dogwood and Five Forks Trickum Road, Lawrenceville. Rev. Bob Tyler will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Drive, N.E., Atlanta, Georgia 30319. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, May 3, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at A. S. Turner and Sons in Decatur.
