Helen Kanellos Rumanes, 78, died peacefully on September 19, 2004 at Hospice Atlanta. The daughter of Louis and Adamantia Kanellos, she was born on December 27, 1925 in the family home her father built in Columbia, SC. A graduate of Columbia College, she moved to Atlanta in 1955 where she met and married her beloved husband, James N. Rumanes, who predeceased her in 1997. Helen was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of The Annunciation of Atlanta where, over the years, she served her church in many capacities. She retired from Cross Keys High School in 1992 and spent the years of her retirement as a volunteer tutor and enjoying her family and many friends. She is survived by her sons, Nick Rumanes of Atlanta and Louis Rumanes of Salt Lake City; sister, Irene Stankewich; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Frances Kanellos and Jim and Phia Kanellos; sister-in-law, Jeri Kanellos; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Maria Rumanes, Steve and Kiki Leontis, Pete and Jeannie Rumanes; sisters-in-law, Shirly Rumanes, Mary Rumanes; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2500 Clairmont Road at 11:00 a.m., interment at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of The Annunciation. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 21 from 6:00 ? 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons.
