Helen S. Crawford

Mrs. Laura Helen Sheriff Crawford of Decatur, formerly of Toccoa, Ga, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2006. She was born in Toccoa, Stephens County, Ga. on Sept. 21, 1916 where she lived a greater portion of her life. She was the daughter of the late John William and Alice Shaw Sheriff. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas S. Crawford, and a daughter, Laura Alice Crawford Finley. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors: a daughter and caregiver, Mary Coleen Crawford; a granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Brotherton; a great grandson, Brandon Lindsey Brotherton of Lawrenceville; nephew, Dr. Robert DeFoor of Harrodsburg, Ky.; niece, Kathryn Segers of Macon; niece in law, Senseney DeFoor Green of Marietta; sister in law, Mrs. Fairy L. Sheriff of Cornelia. She was a member of the 2nd Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, A.H. Colquitt UDC Chapter, and Gen. John Floyd Chapter of US Daughters of 1812, all of Atlanta. She was a bookkeeper, and retired from Harpers Stores, Toccoa. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 15 with Dr. David Sapp and Rev. Charles Qualls officiating. Interment: Stephens Memorial Gardens, Hwy. 17 South, Toccoa, Ga., 5:00 p.m. Sunday. Flowers are optional. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to 2nd Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, Atlanta, First Baptist Church of Toccoa; or Ga. Div. UDC, 1604 Executive Park Lane, Atlanta, GA. 30329. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday at A.S. Turner & Sons.
