Helen Smith Allen

Helen Smith Allen of Decatur, Georgia passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015. She was born on November 7, 1919, in Newborn, Georgia, the daughter of Henry Grady Smith and Lula Mercer Spears Smith. She attended Georgia State College for Women and Greenleaf Business School. Thereafter, she was employed as an executive secretary in several capacities, lastly with Decatur School System. She was a longtime member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and Decatur First United Methodist Church. Her family remembers her as a gentle, generous and considerate person to family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard R. Allen, Sr. and son, H. Richard Allen. Jr.; and is survived by son, Dr. Robert S. Allen and his wife, Jeanne Allen; grandchildren, Paige Allen Brodnax and Robert S. Allen, Jr.; sister, Elizabeth S. Robinson and numerous cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Children's Home, 500 S. Columbia Drive, Decatur, Georgia 30030.Funeral services will be held at 3pm in the Chapel at A.S. Turner Funeral Home in Decatur on Saturday, March 7, 2015, Interment will follow at the Covington City Cemetery at 5pm. Friends will be received on Friday, March 6, 2015, from 6-8pm at A.S. Turner Funeral Home.
