Henry Selinger

February 29, 1948 — August 11, 2007

Henry "Hank" George Selinger III, born February 29, 1948, died suddenly August 11, 2007. He was 59.  He was born in Springfield, Il. and was the son of Charlotte Stach Selinger and Henry Selinger II, both deceased.  He was a reporter and editor for The Miami Herald newspaper for more than a decade. He changed careers from reporter to social worker in 1987 after receiving his MBA in Social Work from Barry University. His health care career in Atlanta spanned from Grady Hospital to Decatur Hospital, where he was assistant administrator for more than 10 years. He was a bass guitar player and founding member of the South City Blues Band, his greatest avocation. He loved the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Falcons and playing golf. He leaves his adoring wife, Bonnie Welch of Atlanta. He also is survived by his brother, Edward Selinger, sister-in-law Ann Selinger and two nephews, Wesley and Matthew, all of Springfield.  Humorous, caring and unfailingly honest, he will be greatly missed by his family and numerous friends. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 6 p.m. in the chapel of A.S. Turner Home, Decatur. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make donations to the American Humane Society.
