Herman Leigh Grey, of Atlanta, died Tuesday, January 24, 2012. After being graduated from Russell High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, Mr. Grey attended Bob Jones University and later earned a BA degree from the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity. At Atlanta Bible Institute, he earned his Evangelical Teacher's Training Certificate. He was a trombonist with the Atlanta Youth Symphony and taught trombone and trumpet with the Southeastern Band Instrument Association. As a member of the Baptist Tabernacle, Mr. Grey served as a Sunday school teacher, a deacon, as well as Finance Committee Chairman. After holding management and technical positions with Atlanta Army Depot, Mr. Grey retired in 1979 from his position as Employment Officer, GSA. Herman is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lydell, who he married in 1954 on NBC's Bride and Groom program in New York. He and Lydell are members of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Connie L. Grey and Alma Darnell Grey; twin sister, Beverly Brackett; and nephew Glenn Merrill Brackett. Survivors include his niece, Gayle Galey and her husband Glenn of Hattiesburg MS, as well as brother-in-law, Newt Fuller and his wife, Bobbie. Graveside services will be held at Westview Cemetery, 2 PM, Saturday, January 28, with Dr. David Sapp and Dr. Charles Qualls officiating. A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
