Hewlett Gean Riggins

September 18, 1922 — August 13, 2004

Mr. Hewlett Gean Riggins passed away on August 13, 2004 at the age of 81.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Avondale Estates, GA.  He was born in Neal, GA on September 18, 1922.  Mr. Riggins served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and often told of war and the places he traveled aboard ship.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wynona Vollenweider Riggins of Decatur, GA; his daughter, Patricia Riggins Myers of Chamblee, GA; his grandson and best friend, Michael Christopher Myers of Chamblee, GA; and his twin sister, Hazel Harris of Griffin, GA.  He also leaves several nieces and nephews, and life-long friends.  He retired from Lockheed Aircraft Company in Marietta in 1980, after 26 loyal years of service.  He was proud to be part of the first C5A ever built. Mr. Riggins and his grandson often built models of the planes built by Lockheed.  He was a kind and gentle man who will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 16th in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons. Dr. Michael Reynolds will officiate.  Interment Floral Hills Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Monday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
