Hilton Monroe Fuller

May 20, 1969 — July 10, 2014

Hilton Monroe Fuller, III, (Monty) passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 10, at his home in Decatur, Georgia. An Atlanta native, Monty was the son of Judge Hilton Fuller and Peggy Hearn Fuller, also Atlanta natives. He was predeceased by his grandparents Dr. Hilton Monroe Fuller and Viola Singleton Fuller, and Freeman McGarity Hearn and Janie Callahan Hearn. Mr. Fuller attended Fernbank, and Immaculate Heart of Mary Elementary Schools, Woodward Academy High School, and graduated from Paideia School. He spent most of his life living on his beloved Oakdale Road. A person of varied interests, Monty sang with the Young Singers of Callenwold. On two occasions he sang with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Robert Shaw. He was also an acolyte at Decatur First United Methodist Church for several years. He greatly enjoyed the sports programs at the Decatur-DeKalb YMCA with soccer being his favorite sport. Monty became a exceptional goal keeper, and as a young adult achieved all-state status in both Georgia and Maine. Later while living in California, he became a referee for several semi-professional and professional soccer leagues. He continued refereeing until poor health intervened. Recently Monty had enjoyed watching the World Cup with his parents as he explained the subtleties of the game to them. He will be remembered for his quick wit, his tender heart, and his analytical mind. In addition to his parents, Monty is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Jane (Beth) Fuller and Margaret Anne Fuller, his nephew Timothy Hilton Fuller, and many cousins, aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 19, at 2:00 p.m. at the Decatur First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Decatur Family YMCA Soccer Program, 1100 Clairemont Ave, Decatur, GA 30030. Funds identified as donations in memory of Monty Fuller will support youth who would not be able to play soccer without financial assistance. A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
