Howard Johnson, age 98, died at Orchard Senior Living in Tucker, Georgia on Saturday August 6, 2016.
Born April 1, 1918 in El Dorado, Kansas, Mr. Johnson was a World War II veteran, enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps in January 1942. After graduating from flight school, he was assigned to the Training Command where he served as a pilot instructor for the duration of the war. Upon completion of his military service, he returned to Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, and graduated in 1950.
Mr. Johnson married Mary Margaret Robertson in Pecos, Texas on June 11, 1943. They lived in Kansas before moving to Atlanta, Georgia where he worked for Richardson Scale Company as a sales engineer for over 40 years. They raised two children who continue to live in Atlanta.
Howard Johnson was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a true gentleman with a delightful sense of humor. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 73 years, Mary; their children, Bruce Johnson and Diane Stubblebine; two grandchildren, Ami Pitts Stephens and Carl Pitts; three great-grandchildren, Will, Taylor, and Wynn Stephens; and his sister, Darlene Engle of Olathe, Kansas.
The visitation will be held at A.S. Turner and Sons, 2773 N. Decatur Rd, Decatur, GA 30033, on August 20, 2016 at 1:00 pm. The service will follow in the chapel at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to either Agape Hospice Care, 5825 Glenridge Dr., Suite 200, Atlanta, GA 30328 or Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 1722 Oak Grove Rd, Decatur, GA 30033.
