Mr. Howard Preston Lucas, 74, of Stone Mountain passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2012. He was born in Waycross, Georgia to Sydney and Katherine Lucas. Orphaned at age two he was raised at Thornwell School for Children in Clinton, SC. He earned a Bachelors and Masters degree from Clemson University. Howard began his career as a USDA inspector in south Georgia, followed by his work in the poultry health industry. In 1983 he and his wife, Martha, opened Colossus Pizza in Stone Mountain, which they operated for 23 years. He was an avid sportsman who loved fishing and hunting. Later in life he traded his rifle for a camera. Howard is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Martha Baches Lucas; brother, Wade Lucas; sister-in-law, Georgia Lucas; children Howard Lucas Jr., Katherine (Rick) Gila, and David (Cheryl) Lucas; granddaughter and great grandchild. Also surviving are several sisters and brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews and god children. A funeral service will be held Monday, March 19, 2012, at 11:00 AM, at The Greek Cathedral of the Annunication, 2800 Clairmont Road, Atlanta, GA 30329, where he was a devout member. Fr. Paul Kaplanis, Fr. Christo Mars and Fr. Anthony Straits, his nephew will officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Road Full of Promise Campaign. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 18, 2012, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
