Mr. Hugo Edward John (Bud) Schwenke, Jr. of Decatur died Thursday,
January 17, 2008. He was born on July 26,1918 in Pittsburgh, PA and
served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was employed in the
casualty insurance business from 1939 to 1965 and worked for the U. S.
Postal Service from 1965 until his retirement in 1980. An active member of
the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer for more than 37 years, he and his
wife were the longest serving married members in the church. Mr. Schwenke was a Boy Scout and Eagle Scout Leader. He coordinated food donations and deliveries for the Lutheran Community Food Ministry and delivered Meals on Wheels every Tuesday and Thursday for over 12 years until his failing eyesight forced him to stop. He was preceded in death by his son, Hugo Edward John Schwenke, III. Surviving him are his wife of 69 years, Dorothy V. Schwenke of Decatur; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Gordon Kitchens of Atlanta; and his sister, Helen Van Dyke of Bradenton, FL. Mr. Schwenke?s body was cremated, and a private graveside service was held with The Reverend Mary Peters officiating. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made in the name of Hugo Schwenke to The Center for the Visually Impaired, Florence Maxwell Low Vision Clinic, 739 West Peachtree St., Atlanta, GA 30308 or to a charity of your choice. A. S.
