Mrs. Ida Levian Finnegan, age 64, died in Johns Creek, GA on February 14, 2022. She was born in Harper, Maryland County, Liberia on April 20, 1957 to Louisa Wede Freeman and Levi H. Martin. She was an active member of Mount Scott United Methodist Church where she proudly sang in the choir and tried to attend every church function. She always mentioned that her time spent at church were her best childhood memories. She would talk about her friend’s Sophie’s alto voice and how they would win bible recitation competitions because her friend “knew that bible.” She went to J.S. Spratt Elementary, then Fatima High in Harper City. She later moved to Monrovia where she graduated from St. Samuels High School in 1975.
She had four beautiful children, Abigail, Oslene, Michael and her darling son, Marc.
She was an amazing mother. She just made things up as she went along. We had no expectation of perfection. We just knew that no one was going to fight harder for us, work tirelessly on our behalf, and love us more than she did. Her relationship with each child was unique. She figured out our needs and met them.
While hanging Marian Rogers, she met her husband of 27 years, Tony Finnegan at the Laughing Cat Club in Liberia. She would always say, “We met on Thanksgiving Day” every time she told the story. He was smitten by her from the start. With $3000 in her pocket, she left Liberia in 1982 and relocated to New York. Tony joined her a few months later. They married in 1984 and stayed married until his death on February 13, 2011. On Valentine’s Day 2022, he came back to get is “Doll Baby.”
She leaves to cherish her memories her beloved children; Abigail Milsap, Oslene Robertson-Finnegan, Michael and Marc Finnegan; grandchildren, Malachi, Anthony, Aisha Finnegan, Jazmyn and Jlan Milsap.
Ida, E-Doose, Grandma, I.D.M.C., Mama, I.D. Loco, you will be missed! You will be missed by countless family, friends, and the Liberian community. Your epic parties will live in infamy. Your devotion to the Lord will never be questioned. Until we meet again, sweet mother, sleep well.
