Irby B. Gray, age 85 of Decatur, formerly of College Park, died Saturday, August 30, 2008 following a brief illness. Mr. Gray was a gifted artist whose work was seen by most all, as he hand lettered the markings on signage and motor vehicles in a by gone era. His specialty and favorite was fire trucks. He was a devoted husband, nurturing father, inspiring grandfather and playful and loving to one and all. Mr. Gray, a member of East Point Church of Christ, was preceded in death by his wife, Chris (Grantham) Gray; daughter, Dorothy (Bond) Hodge; and grandson, Kenny Koire. He is survived by daughter, Joann Bond; son-in-law, Edwin (Linda) Hodge; grandchildren, Bob Bronstein, Mike (Allison) Hodge, Steve Hodge, and Jamie (Bobby) Whitt; great grandchildren, Danielle Hodge, Samantha Hodge and Katrina Bronstein; brother, Francis Gray; special niece, Maxine “Mickey” Foles, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 4th at 11 am in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons with Minister Eric Whelchel officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 pm and 9 pm at A. S. Turner & Sons.
