Irma Leona Burnette Mathews, 93, of Loganville, beloved wife and mother, passed away on May 21, 2016. Born August 10, 1922, in Macon, GA, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Elizabeth Jackson Burnette and wife of 46 years to the late Lawrence Marion Mathews. Irma enjoyed painting, cross stitching, sewing, reading, watching the Braves, and spending time with her family. She could do anything she put her mind to from making skateboards out of scrap wood and roller-skates to upholstering furniture to sewing a wedding dress. Irma had a deep love for animals and spoiled all of her pets.
She is survived by three daughters, Lawren Hammond and her husband, Claude, Rebecca Hooten and her husband, Don, and Beryl Greaves and her husband, Allan; two sons, Stephen Mathews and his wife, Twila, and Scott Mathews and his wife, Emily; fifteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many more loving family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Irma was preceded in death by her sisters, Nina Burnette and Helen Bobo.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, May 23, at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Decatur Cemetery, Decatur.
