J. Louise Pertain

Brigadier Mrs. Louise Pertain of Duluth, Georgia passed away on June 18, 2014 at the age of 95. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday June 24, 2014 at The Salvation Army Atlanta Temple Corps, 2090 N. Druid Hills Rd., Atlanta, GA 30329. Burial will follow the funeral at Westview Cemetery. Brigadier Pertain was born February 21, 1919 in Spartanburg, SC, and was commissioned as a Salvation Army Officer on June 6, 1938. On January 1, 1942, she married Lewis Pertain, also a Salvation Army officer, and served with him in various appointments. Following her husband's untimely death on July 3, 1969 at the age of 62, Brigadier Pertain continued her service as an active Salvation Army officer until her retirement on February 29, 1984. Following her retirement, Brigadier Pertain continued to work for The Salvation Army at their Southern Territorial Headquarters in Atlanta. Brigadier Pertain is survived by her son Charles Pertain, daughter Mary Pertain Miller, seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
