Jack Bryant

August 9, 1927 — February 23, 2007

Jack Bryant was called to glory on Friday, February 23, 2007 after complications of heart surgery.  Jack was a loving husband, beloved father, and doting grandfather who loved home and hearth, country, travel, and sports.  Born on the family farm in Smith County, Mississippi on August 9, 1927, Jack was the second son of 6 children of Wylie O. and Lessie Laird Bryant.  He enlisted and served in the US Navy during World War II.  After WW II he attended Milsaps College and the University of Mississippi. Jack met and married his wife, Martha, in 1957, and after several jobs in the Carolinas, settled in Decatur, GA in 1959.  Jack graduated summa cum laude from John Marshall Law School while working at State Farm Insurance Company, where he was employed for 36 years.  Jack, a longtime Methodist, was an active member of the Judson C. Ward Sunday School Class. He served as president of the class and organized many activities for Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church. After retiring Jack joined the Decatur Lions Club, where he served as secretary and received various awards from the organization.  Jack is survived by his wife, Martha Bryant; his daughter and son-in-law, Hamby and John Groover; his granddaughter, Margaret Groover; his brother Odie Bryant and family of Bay Springs, MS; sister Joyce McBrayer and family of Frankfurt, KY; sister Rachel Barton and family of Starkville, MS; and his sister-in-law Dottie Bryant and family of Mandeville, LA.  The family will receive visitors at 10:00 a.m. prior to a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, all at A.S. Turner & Sons in Decatur.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, in honor of Jack Bryant, 1660 North Decatur Road NE, Atlanta GA  30307-1010, or to your favorite charity.
