Jack Warren Eidson was born on August 17, 1916. He died almost 91 years later on July 23, 2007. And oh, what 91 years those were. He was born to Mabel and Glenn Eidson, the third son, and a native Atlantan, a fact of which he was so proud. He grew up in West End, but spent most of his life in Avondale Estates where he and his beloved Mary reared four children: Jackie, Randy, Ellie and Perry. Jack Eidson was a salesman, primarily for Snap-on Tools Corporation. He was personable, endearing, and funny, which always got him through the front door. He was an honest man, a man of integrity and a man of his word -traits that commanded the attention and loyalty of purchasing agents throughout the southeast. Upon his retirement in 1977, he was deemed "permanently gone to Lockheed," an homage to his finest hours as a salesman. He was a longtime member of Avondale First Baptist Church and after Mary died, he was a resident at Arbor Terrace and the Regency House, always staying close to Avondale. Though not much of an athlete himself, he enjoyed spectator sports, following the Braves, the Falcons and the Yellow Jackets with devotion. One of his fondest memories was the night he occupied Ted Turner's box seat at a Braves game. He is survived by his daughter, Jackie; his son Randy and his wife Sylvia; his daughter Ellie and her husband Flip; and his son Perry and his wife Laurine. He is also survived by that rare commodity, a best friend. David Hull and his wife Sheila kept the light shining in his eyes and we, his children, are grateful for the special bond they enjoyed -a bond that brought them into our lives. He took an enormous pride in his grandchildren Allyson, Ivy, Kate, Baron, Ty, Jill, Laura, and Lindsey and he welcomed with open arms his step- grandchildren Tracey, Lane, Jonathan, Billy and Wayne. His legacy continues through his fourteen great-grandchildren, his brother Dan, his wife Zora Mae, three nieces and two nephews. We would like to extend a special thanks to Mike Davis, RN; Karis Cassius, RN; and Diane Smith, Respiratory Therapist of DeKalb Medical Center for their kindness and special attention to this special man. The family will receive friends and family at A. S. Turner & Sons on Wednesday evening from 6:30 until 9:00 PM and from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM on Thursday. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM at A. S. Turner & Sons. Burial will follow at Melwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
