Jacqueline (Jackie) Ross Baker, 92, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away Friday December 27, 2013. Grandmother, as she preferred to be called by all, was enjoying a Christmas visit with her daughter Nancy Pandolfi and her husband Paul on St. Simons Island. During her visit, Grandmother had the opportunity to be with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and Santa Claus. Jackie was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 19, 1921. After graduating from Commercial High School, Jackie married Jack Baker. Years of traveling with the Army took them to Monroe, North Carolina, Seattle, Washington and Frankfurt Germany where they traveled many countries. Returning to Decatur in 1948, Jackie and Jack joined his mother, Maud Baker, and together they enjoyed 40 years with Maud Baker Flower Shoppe. In 1988 Jackie and Jack retired to The Villages, FL. After Jack passed away in 1990, Jackie continued to live in The Villages until her stroke in 2009. Afterwards she moved to Lakeland, Florida, to be near her daughter Peggy Newsome and her husband Robert. Jackie loved the Lord and was active in her churches: Decatur First Baptist, Valley Brook Baptist-Decatur, Chapel of All Faiths-The Villages, and First United Methodist-Lakeland, where she was a member of the Vanguard Sunday School Class. Jackie was a member of Eastern Star-Decatur 148, Daughters of the Nile, WW Social Club-Yaarab Shrine Temple, and Mother's Club of Kappa Alpha Theta. She was preceded in death by Jack, her husband of 50 years; mother, Isoline Asbell Ross Boyd; father, Terrell Jerome Ross; sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Rudy Brooks, and brother-in-law, Ron Nocera. Jackie is survived by her children, Nancy and Paul Pandolfi of St. Simons Island GA and Peggy and Robert Newsome of Lakeland, FL; sister, Pat Nocera of Alpharetta, GA; 6 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 11 am, Friday, January 3, 2014, in the Scott Chapel of Decatur Presbyterian Church. Dr. Ken Hughes will officiate. The family will receive friends 5-7 Thursday evening, January 2nd, at A. S. Turner and Sons, Funeral Home and Crematory, Decatur GA, 404-292-1551.
