Jamerson "Harry" Maddox

August 1, 1944 — March 4, 2018

Jamerson “Harry” Maddox of Gainesville, Georgia, went to be with our Lord and Savior on March 4th, 2018. He was 73 years young. Harry is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Brenda Hazlerigs Maddox, step-son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Lisa Crosby, a sister and brother-in-law Betty and John Boggs, nephews Scott Maddox and Jamie Maddox and their families, brother-in-law and-sister-in-law Ricky and Shirley Hazlerigs, brother in-law and sister-in-law Jimmy and Jean Hazlerigs, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harry worked for the Georgia Power Company from 1967 until 2002, beginning as a lineman after leaving the Army and progressed to Branch Manager of Georgia Power’s Lilburn location. Not one to sit still, Harry later re-entered the workplace and took a part-time job at Ingles where his fantastic work ethic and outgoing personality led to a series of promotions in a short time as he rose from working in the deli, to Store Manager for 7 years at various locations before reducing his hours back to part-time. Harry’s last position was at the Ingles location on Thompson Bridge Road until late last year. No matter where Harry worked, he was well-liked and respected by customers and co-workers. His outgoing personality and warmth was contagious and he drew people to him wherever he went.

Harry was proud of the many accomplishments he achieved during his career. He completed the First Line Supervisor’s Development Program in 1999, was awarded with the Northeast DeKalb Optimist of the Year Award 1999-2000, served as President of the Optimist Club of Tucker, Northeast DeKalb, GA, won awards from the Scottish Rite Children’s Medical Center, Service to Gwinnett Utilities Association and Friend of Scouting NE Georgia Boy Scouts of America. His meteoric rise at Ingles was also a huge accomplishment for someone whose background was not in the grocery business.

Outside of work, Harry also brought home awards in fishing and golfing tournaments that are too numerous to count. Harry was very creative and built many small pieces of wood furniture, was a very good bowler and even took up painting in the last few years. Harry enjoyed watching baseball and football and got to see his two favorite teams, the Falcons and UGA Bulldogs, go to their respective championships during the last two years.

Harry’s memorial service will held on Friday, March 9 at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home at 2773 North Decatur Road in Decatur, GA. The family will hold visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. with service at 1:00 p.m. A procession will occur immediately afterwards to the gravesite at East View Cemetery. Brother Harold Savage and Reverend Michael Armistead will preside over the services.
