James Autrey “Jim” Manley died on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. Born December 8, 1937, at Emory University Hospital, he grew up in Macon, Georgia. He was awarded a degree in Business Administration from Auburn University in 1960.
Jim worked at SunTrust Bank in Atlanta until his retirement, and then spent several years working on behalf of United Way of Greater Atlanta. For a decade, Jim served on the National Advisory Council for the College of Education at Auburn, including several terms as its Chair.
A man of deep faith, he devoted his time and talent to First Baptist Church of Decatur, serving on the Finance Committee and leading the Young at Heart Committee. He enjoyed spending time at the family farm in Alabama. Jim was a devoted husband and proud father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Harriett Elder Manley; children Kimble Eastman, Jefferson Manley, and Victoria Manley; and granddaughters Autrey Eastman and Kappy Eastman.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, May 29 at 4:00 PM at A.S. Turner & Sons in Decatur, GA. The family asks that memorial gifts be made to the Harriett Elder and James Autrey Manley, Jr. Endowed Scholarship in the College of Education at Auburn University or the Benevolence Ministry of the First Baptist Church of Decatur.
