James C. Roberts, age 86, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on August 19, 2010. Born in Flowery Branch, Georgia on July 29, 1924, he was the son of Fred Elonzo Roberts and Adalia Birdsong Roberts. He graduated from Young Harris College, the University of Georgia, and the Institute of Financial Education Graduate Program at Indiana University. While at the University of Georgia during World War II, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps Cadet Program. He served with the Air Corps at Langley AFB, Virginia and in Combat with the 100th Infantry Division and the 343rd Combat Engineer Battalion in France and Germany. Mr. Roberts was employed by the Kroger Company, Life of Georgia Insurance Company and National Executive Life. In 1962, he joined Fulton Federal Savings where he served as Controller, Corporate Secretary, Treasurer and retired as Senior Vice President in 1991. Mr. Roberts served as the National President of the Financial Managers Society, Atlanta Chapter President of the Financial Executives Institute, an organizing Director of the Avail ATM network, and was a member of the Atlanta Jaycees, the Atlanta Exchange Club, and the Downtown Atlanta Kiwanis Club. He was an active member of Decatur Presbyterian Church, where he served as Deacon, Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, and on various committees. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Shirley Roberts of Atlanta, and two daughters, Ellen Stokely and her husband Charles of Marietta and Amy Lillard and her husband John of Dalton. “Pa” was loved by all his grandchildren, including Lauren Marshall, Justin Marshall, Jonathon Lillard, Rick Stokely, and James Stokely, as well as Wendy Oyster and beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned for 2:O0 pm Saturday August 21 at the chapel of Decatur Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Decatur Presbyterian Church, 205 Sycamore Street, Decatur GA 30030.
