DAVIS, James Clayton (J.C.), Jr., 93, of Atlanta, GA went home to be with our Lord on August 21, 2017. Our hearts are heavy, but also filled with gratitude and joy for his exemplary life and steadfast love that shaped our lives and built our family. This remarkable yet humble man of God will be a legacy to his descendants.
J.C. was born November 26, 1923, to James and Ella Mae Davis in Allenhurst, GA. Most of his childhood was spent growing up in logging camps where his father worked in north Florida. Upon completing high school in 1942, he entered military service and served in the U.S. Army in England in WWII. After his honorable discharge, he worked in Jacksonville, FL for Florida East Coast Railway. In 1949, he was hired by IBM. His distinguished career of 38 years with IBM included corporate transfers to offices in Tallahassee, Miami, Washington, DC and Atlanta. After retiring from IBM, he helped many people as an advisor with Atlanta Consumer Credit Counseling for 13 years.
J.C. was always very involved in church, serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher, as well as chair of many church committees. He was a charter member of Briarcliff Baptist Church in Atlanta. In his later years, nothing was more precious to J.C. than spending time with his grandchildren, his faithful dog Jenny, and his “sweet Junie” the love of his life.
J.C. is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, June Flesher Davis; son and daughter-in-law, Clayton and Julia Davis of Duluth, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Frank Speer of Tucker, GA; grandsons Brent Speer of Atlanta, GA, and Alex Davis of N.Y., N.Y; granddaughters Claire Blake and husband Patrick of Atlanta, GA; Kathleen Weldon and husband Wade of Atlanta, GA; and, Piper Neblett and husband Edward of Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren Wren and Shea Blake; nieces Linda Utterback of Atlanta, GA and, Colleen and Carl Stickeler of Valrico, FL; nephew Phillip Davis of Little Rock, AR; and, brother, Jack Davis of FL.
The family wishes to thank each and every one for their prayers and expressions of love offered to our family during this time of J.C.’s homegoing.
