James E. Maddox, Sr., age 90, died Monday, May 17, 2010. He was a life-long resident of the Atlanta area and served in the U. S. Army in World War II. Jimmy married the love of his life, Sara Fitts, in 1946 and they raised their three children in East Lake and Decatur. After 31 years of dedicated services to the City of Decatur Police Department, he retired in 1978 and enjoyed each and every day of his retirement. Jimmy was a kind, loving, good-natured man who loved his family, his many friends and his church. He is survived by his wife, Sara; daughter, Maxine Rosecrans; sons, James E. Maddox, Jr. and wife Carolyn, David L. Maddox and wife Pat; sister, Martha Ann Harper; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 20th at 11 a.m. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons. Interment Floral Hills Memory Gardens. For those prefer, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rehoboth Baptist Church, 2997 Lawrenceville Hwy., Tucker, GA 30084. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 19th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons.
