James Edward Funderburke ... "Jimmy, Jim, Red"
August 25, 1949 - September 15, 2024
After many years of struggle, Jimmy Funderburke, our friend, companion, uncle, and cousin, passed away on Sunday, September 15 from complications of diabetes.
Jimmy was born on August 25, 1949, in Atlanta to William B. and Doris H. Funderburke. He spent his childhood in the Kirkwood neighborhood and East Atlanta, attending City of Atlanta and DeKalb County schools. Jimmy owned and operated several different businesses through the years including auto body shops and a pawn store, Special Money in Chamblee. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Jerry R. Funderburke. Surviving family are his niece, Shelly Parrish and his great-niece, JeriAnna Leigh Travis (Andrew) and several cousins.
Many hours were spent with his friends and family at his home, hunting property, grape vineyard, and businesses. Happy memories were forged while swimming, playing with dogs, chasing pigs, playing cards, jumping waves, and traveling with his huge assortment of friends and family.
Jimmy was grateful to the number of friends who helped him through the past few years, especially Judi Stokes, Debbie Mobley and the late Angelia Lester.
Jimmy Funderburke will be missed, and we all know that some day we will see him again. No more pain for you Jim.
