James Glover (Jim) Williams, Jr. of Decatur, Georgia, died October 10, 2008, at Hospice Atlanta. He was born October 19, 1922, in Durant, Mississippi, to Louise Beall Williams and James Glover Williams and grew up in Macon, GA. He graduated from Lanier High School and received his BBA from the University of Georgia in 1943. While at Georgia, he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order (serving as President), and also of Blue Key National Honor Fraternity. He reveled in his stint as manager of the football team which won the 1942 Rose Bowl, and became national champions. He graduated from Midshipman’s School at Columbia University and served in the United States Navy during World War II, captaining LCT 581 which took part in the invasion of Normandy. Between tours of duty in Europe and the Pacific, he returned home and married Martha Fambro in Rockmart, GA, January 28, 1945. His career was in the lumber and building materials business. He retired as Manager of Dealer Sales for Randall Brothers, Inc. Both prior to and after retirement, he was an avid gardener, sharing his bounty with family and neighbors. He was a member of Decatur First United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school and served on the Administrative Board. Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Martha; brother, George Beall Williams (Julia), Roebuck, SC; daughter, Jean Williams Middleton (Jon), Statesboro, GA; son, Charles Fambro Williams (Terri), Atlanta; grandchildren, Jay Middleton (Ashley), Asheville, NC, Andrew Middleton (Meredith), Vivian Middleton, Caroline Williams, and Hailey Williams, all of Atlanta, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial service will be held at DecaturFirstUnitedMethodistChurch, 300 East Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, Tuesday, October 14 at 2 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Dr., NE, Atlanta, GA 30319 or to the charity of one’s choice. Visitation will be on Monday, October 13, from 6 to 8 pm at A.S. Turner & Sons, 2773 North Decatur Rd., Decatur.
