James Harold Lucas, age 77, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011. Jim was born in Birmingham, Alabama on November 16, 1933. He attended Georgia Institute of Technology where he received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering in 1965. He had a prolific career at Lockheed-Martin as an engineer specializing in aviation projects for over two decades and proceeded to serve as a lead Senior Project Manager for the construction of the air traffic control tower at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which is the tallest air traffic control tower in North America. His career also included many other prominent industrial engineering projects including, the construction of the 5th runway at Hartsfield-Jackson, several courthouses in the Southeast and multiple expansion projects for MARTA. He also designed and built several luxury custom homes throughout the Atlanta Metro area, including the home where he resided with his beloved family for over 30 years. His infant son Matthew Lucas, sisters Brenda and Marie precede Jim in death. He is survived by his best friend, partner and loving wife, Joye Lucas. Additionally he is survived by his brother Tommy, two daughters, Brooke Lucas (Brookie) and Jennifer Lucas (his little scooter) and her new family Ray Mariner, Logan & Jack, as well as his four sons, Jeff, Greg, Mark and Jason; four grandchildren Stephen, Jake, Whitney and Paige. He was deeply beloved by dozens of friends and family-members and will be profoundly missed by all. A celebration of his life will be held Monday May 16 at Cator Woolford Gardens, 1815 S. Ponce de Leon Ave, Atlanta 30307. The family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at A.S. Turner & Sons.
