James Herman Hickmon

James Herman Hickmon, 94, a longtime resident of Atlanta died Friday, July 21, 2023. Mr. Hickmon had a 31-year career in banking at Fulton Federal Savings and Loan as a Senior Vice President and later as Chief Operations Officer at Southern Federal Savings and Loan.

Mr. Hickmon was born in Thomaston, GA on December 22, 1928 to the late George W. Hickmon and Neppie Webb Hickmon. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary Ann Griffin Hickmon and sisters Hazel Adams, Pearl McGee, Madelyn Collins and Martha Roberts, and brother, G.W. Hickmon.

Mr. Hickmon is survived by his son David (Sharon) Hickmon of Duluth, GA and daughters Kathy (Mark) Dando of Shiloh, GA and Nancy (Mike) Tavares of Waukesha, WI.; grandchildren Kent (Suzanne) Hickmon of Herne Hill, Australia, Will Hickmon of Melbourne, Australia, Ashley Hickmon of Austin, TX, Joseph (Shaohannah) Tavares of Bethesda, MD and Kathryn Tavares of Nashville, TN and two great granddaughters Avery and Bonnie Hickmon of Herne Hill, Australia.

Mr. Hickmon developed a love of flying at an early age and earned his private license while attending Robert E. Lee High School in Thomaston, GA. After graduation in 1946, Mr.Hickmon participated in the Navy V-5 program and attended the University of GA before beginning his military service as a pilot in the US Navy. While serving in the Navy in Pensacola, FL Mr. Hickmon attended a Byron Nelson golf exhibition and afterwards was determined to learn to play golf and became an avid and enthusiastic golfer and was a longtime member of Druid Hills Golf Club. But most of all Mr. Hickmon loved his family and the Lord. Every phone call or visit ended with "I love you" and if you were leaving to drive home he would always say, "Call me when you get home." He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 29, 2023 at AS Turner Funeral Home and Crematory. The interment will be private.
