Mr. James H. Bentley, 84, of Decatur passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2005. He was a member and elder of Midway Presbyterian Church. Mr. Bentley was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was a radar operator at Pearl Harbor that picked up the approaching Japanese planes. Mr. Bentley was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, the E.A. Minor Masonic Lodge #603 F. & A.M., and a member of the IBEW Local #613 for over 60 years. He was an avid vegetable gardener. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alva Osborne Bentley; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann B. and Wayne L. Bell of Good Hope, GA, Lynn B. and James Wallis of Atlanta; sons and daughters-in-law, J. David and Patricia W. Bentley of Rutledge, GA, John E. and Sybil W. Bentley of Watkinsville, GA, and Robert A. and Chyrle L. Bentley of Watkinsville, GA; fourteen grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren, brother, G. Tom and Mildred Bentley of Albany, GA; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 27th at Midway Presbyterian Church. Rev. Joy Fisher will officiate. Mr. Bentley will lie in state at the church from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Interment Dawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Midway Presbyterian Church, 3363 Midway Rd., Decatur, GA 30032. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
