James (“Jim”) Nathan Kraar, 65, of Stockbridge passed away on Wednesday January 22, 2020 of natural causes. Born in Atlanta, Georgia on June 24, 1954, he was the son of the late Harry Kraar and the late Helen Kraar. Survivors include his daughters Hannah Kraar and Aliya Kraar, who were the absolute light of his life, and a brother Donald Kraar.
Jim attended Shamrock High School, class of 1972, where he made lifelong friends. Among his friends, Jim was known for his humor and easy conversation. He never met a brunch place he didn’t like and could often be found enjoying breakfast with friends. After earning his pilot license, Jim took to the skies. He was happiest when soaring in a yellow Stearman, but his passion for planes didn’t stop there. Jim was enamored by all aircraft of World War II. In fact, Jim was quite a history buff and became an avid collector of World War II memorabilia and literature. His love for history continued throughout his life and inspired him to preserve his personal history as well. This past year, Jim dedicated himself to cleaning and maintaining the graves of relatives in the Decatur Cemetery. As a father and friend, Jim will be dearly missed.
His daughters will receive friends at the A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, in Decatur at 1:00 p.m., on February 2, 2020 followed by a graveside service for burial of his cremated remains at 2:30 p.m. in his family plot at the Decatur Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the Angels Among Us Pet Rescue organization.
