James Kenneth Tabb

November 16, 1925 — June 7, 2011

James Kenneth Tabb, age 85, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed to the Lord on June 7, 2011. He was born on November 16, 1925 in Blakely, Georgia. He was predeceased by his father, Charles Lee Tabb, mother, Jimmie Clyde Tabb, daughter Elaine Tabb Mullinax, son-in-law Barry Lee Mullinax, two brothers, Charles Lee Tabb, Jr. and Knox Polk Tabb, and sister Helen Tabb Wolak. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rosalie Yancey Tabb, and sons James K. Tabb, Jr. (Janice) of Dade City, Florida, Robert Yancey Tabb (Darcel) of Covington, Georgia, and Thomas Victor Tabb (Cindy) of Conyers, Georgia; Twelve grandchildren, Christopher Tabb, Allison Sclavakis, Jeffery Phillips, Trey Phillips, Nathan Tabb, Kevin Tabb, Phillip Tabb, Kerry Jones, Matthew Hall, Justin Hall, Morgan Tabb, and Jessica Tabb, and 9 great grand children. Kenneth was a long time member of Briarcliff United Methodist Church, and served in numerous leadership roles over 45 years, Including Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He also served on the Council of World Evangelism. He served his country in World War II as a member of the Army Air Corp. Always active in his community, he helped many people with his service to Meals on Wheels, as a volunteer Probation Counselor, and Appalachian Service projects. He founded The Tabb Insurance Agency in 1954, and was active in the Atlanta Association of Independent Insurance Agents and the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity, and member of the Masons, Pythagarus Lodge. For over 50 years he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, and served in numerous capacities with Troop 534. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award by the Atlanta Area Council, BSA in 2003. Over the years, he mentored hundreds of scouts as Assistant Scoutmaster, and Citizenship merit badge counselor. Through his example and support his daughter attained the rank of First Class in Girl Scouts, and his three sons achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Services will be held at Briarcliff United Methodist Church at 1:00 PM on June 11, followed by the interment at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker, Georgia. Donations may be made to Briarcliff United Methodist Church or Boy Scouts of America, Troop 534. Both may be mailed to the church at 4105Briarcliff Rd., N. E., Atlanta, GA 30345. The family will receive friends at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur on Friday, June 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
