James Lamar Mcwilliams

February 9, 1922 — June 20, 2014

Mr. James Lamar McWilliams, 92, of Dunwoody, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014. He was born in Lithonia, Georgia to the late James Lawson and Ethel King McWilliams on February 9, 1922. James served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Technical Sergeant. After returning to Atlanta after the war, he graduated from Georgia State University and became a Certified Public Accountant, retiring from White Motor Company with 40 years of service in 1990. He was a 32o Freemason, a Shriner and a lifetime member of the E.A. Minor Lodge No. 603 FandAM, Lithonia, Georgia. He was a life-long member of Martha Brown United Methodist Church in East Atlanta. James' family wishes to acknowledge and thank his long time caregiver Terry Sawyer for her faithful and caring service during James's illness. James is preceded in death by his wife Betty Sue Waddell McWilliams in 2008. He is survived by his sister: Sarah Grainger, and brother: Harold Gregory McWilliams; sister-in-law Sidney Waddell Shell; brothers-in-law G. Darden Beaty and Carl D. Long; nieces and their husbands: Paula S. and Donald Reeves, Peachtree Corners, GA, Beth and Ronnie Linger of Columbia, TN, Susan B. and Jeff Cagle of McDonough, GA; nephew and his wife Rawson P. III and Tammy Shell of Winder, GA. Great Nieces and their husbands, Laura and Marcus da Cunha of Watkinsville, GA; great nieces Regina Shell, Ball Ground, GA Candice Lovette, Winder, GA and Megan Cagle, McDonough, GA; great nephews and their wives. Paul and Erin Reeves, Lilburn, GA, Chad and Morgan Cagle, McDonough, GA; great nephews: Kevin Morris, McDonough, GA, Ryan Linger, Columbia, Tennessee, great-great-nieces, Luciana da Cunha and Grace Reeves, Blakelee Braydin Mae Cagle great-great-nephews Tiago de Cunha and Logan Reeves. Niece and her husband Robyn and Joe Cobb, nephews and their wife's : Jacob Paul and Cynthia McWilliams, Greg and Sally Grainger, Chip and Kristin McWilliams; great nephews: Paul McWilliams, Joseph McWilliams, David McWilliams, David Grainger, Jonathan Grainger, Daniel Cobb, and Carlton McWilliams; great nieces: Rachel Polizzi and Ellison McWilliams great-grand nephew: Judson Cobb; great-grand nieces: Charlotte Grainger and Abigail Grainger; and his faithful caregiver Terry Sawyer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday June 24 in the chapel of A.S. Turner and sons with Rev David C. Collins officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Children's Health Care of Atlanta or to The United Methodist Children's Home. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00-8:00 PM at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
