Mr. James G. (Hap) Paine, III , age 59, of Decatur died Saturday, January 24, 2009. He was a very proud native of Decatur. Hap attained the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of Boy Scout Troop #175 at Decatur First United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Druid Hills High School Class of ’67, where he double lettered and was a swimming coach for Leafmore Pool. Later he served in the U. S. Army as a member of the 101st Finance Corp, assigned to NATO in Augsburg, Germany during the early 1970s. Hap was employed as a Construction Superintendent with Pattillo Construction Company for 35 years. His interests included camping & outdoor activities, snow skiing, surfing, skateboarding, cooking barbecue at competitions and other events, playing guitar & listening to music and searching garage sales. Hap is survived by his wife, Lauren and his son, Neil; brother, Lee and his family Patricia and Greyson; and his stepmother, Norma Paine. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 31st with Bishop L. Bevel Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Boy Scout Troop 175 c/o Decatur First United Methodist Church, 300 East Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, GA 30030. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
