James Patterson (Pat) Pharr, age 65, died January 13, 2005 of cancer at his home in Gainesville. The remains have been cremated. He graduated from Decatur High in 1957 and received a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from Georgia Tech in 1962. A member of the Architectural Honor Society, Tau Sigma Delta, he once served as its president. He began his career in architectural design with the firm of Stevens and Wilkenson and later with Zachary Henderson and Associates as a designer of private residences. He joined the firm of Finch, Alexander, Barnes, Rothschild and Paschal (FABRAP) as project manager in production drawing. In 1968, Mr. Pharr changed his emphasis to interiors as a designer of offices, theatres and restaurants at ASD, Inc. Mr. Pharr joined John Portman and Associates in 1972 as an interior designer. With Portman, he worked on major office projects such as the Texas American Bank Building, the Peachtree Center Cain Tower, the Peachtree Center Marquis One Office Tower, the Northpark 400 and 600 Office Buildings and One Peachtree Center. His hotel design experience includes work on the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero, San Francisco; the Westin Peachtree Plaza; the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Retail Center, Los Angeles; the Regent of Singapore Hotel; the Atlanta Marriott Marquis and the New York Marriott Marquis which includes a Broadway theatre; and Pan Pacific Hotel in San Francisco. Other projects include interior design on the Peachtree Center Athletic Club, the Atlanta Gift Mart and the San Francisco Fashion Center. Mr. Pharr also designed interiors for Mr. Portman?s residences, both in Atlanta and on Sea Island, GA. He worked on additional projects in San Francisco, Houston, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Egypt and Korea. He is survived by his brother Eugene H. Pharr; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors at A. S. Turner & Sons in Decatur, Saturday, January 15, 2005 from 3 to 5 PM. A private service will be held later.
