James Proffitt

James "Jim" Mitchell Proffitt, 83, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on February 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 4, 1941, in Madison, Tennessee, Jim was the son of the late Mitchell Clay Proffitt and Myra Sands Proffitt. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Linda Cooper, and Thelma Barrett.

Jim graduated from Tennessee Tech in 1965 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He dedicated 33 years of service to Georgia Power before retiring and remained actively involved in the Georgia Power Ambassadors, where he held various leadership roles.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Alma Proffitt, his children Greg (Betsy) Proffitt and Allison (Kevin) Reeves, and his stepdaughter Tonia Tumbleston. He was a proud grandfather to Brantley (Sara) Proffitt and Ellie Proffitt. He is also survived by his brother, Gary (Dianne) Proffitt, his brother-in-law, Ray Cooper, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.

Jim was a member of the Presbyterian church in Madison, Tennessee. He found joy in traveling, spending time with family and friends.

A service to honor and celebrate Jim's life will be held on Saturday, March 01, 2025 at 11:00 AM at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory, 2773 N Decatur Rd Decatur, Georgia 30033, officiated by Reverend Jeanine Fulton. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, prior to the service. A reception will be held after the service to continue remebering the Jim's life.
