James R. Smoot

Mr. James Reid Smoot, age 82, of Atlanta, GA entered into rest on Sunday morning, May 1, 2005 at his residence. He is survived by his godsons, Reid Hunt, Ben Reid Sims; and cousins.  He was a native of Woodbury, GA and son of the late James Orin Smoot and Hattie Smoot.  He began college at Georgia Tech but World War II interrupted his education. He joined the Army and served his country. After the war, he finished his education and graduated from Georgia Tech. He became a well-known architect. Mr. Smoot was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Marks Smoot, who passed away on July 1, 1987. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons on Wednesday, May 4th at 2 p.m., Rev. Robert Dendy officiating. Burial will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions to the American Cancer Society, 2200 Century Blvd., Atlanta, GA 30345. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
