Les Starnes, Atlanta Real Estate Appraiser November 2, 1946 - February 15, 2025.
James Leslie Starnes, 78, died after a long illness. The son of the late Rose Evelyn Courtenay Starnes and James Louis Starnes. He is survived by his wife Dacia and her children, Tina (Don), Carie and Jeff, and also by his children, Jimmy and Leslie (Ian).
He leaves seven grandchildren, Caleb, Millie, Sarah, Samuel, Benjamin, Joseph, and Jonathan. Also, six siblings, Courtenay (Warren), Mark (Forest), John (Teresa), Teresa (Jeff), and Randy (Susan).
His thirteen nieces and nephews adored him.
Les grew up in Decatur, on Lullwater Road. He attended Druid Hills High School, as well as graduating from the Georgia Military Academy in 1965. He played drums for the high school marching band and also with friends at the start of the rock and roll era. Many of his friends remember that band and the dances and parties they played.
After high school he attended Wofford College. He left school to voluntarily serve his country in Vietnam. Les served with distinction as a US Marine while in country between 1966 and 1968.
Upon returning to Atlanta he started working in the real estate field, as a realtor and then an appraiser. For years he ran his own company, Starnes & Associates, before finishing his career and retiring with the Bank of America as a Chief Appraiser.
Les loved art and music, painting with oils and practicing the saxaphone. He activly enjoyed playing sports, especially tennis and golf.
A funeral service is planned for March 15, at the A.S.Turner & Sons Funeral Home
