Victor J. Poulos, 90, of Atlanta, died Thursday, April 3rd of congestive heart failure. He was born on Central Avenue, Atlanta, Georgia to Jim and Chrysoula (Pefines) Papanicolopoulos (Poulos) in 1924. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 48 years, Dorothy Johnson Hamby, in June of 1996. In 1998 Victor married Eilleen Paris, his devoted and loving wife of 15 years. Victor is survived by his loving sons, Robert R. Hamby, Jr. and wife, Deborah, of Roswell, and Charles M. Hamby and wife, Sharlene, of Sandy Springs. Victor is also survived by his three siblings: Lula Poulos, Tassie Portulas and Pete J. Poulos of Atlanta. Although he had never had a music lesson, Victor was a great drummer, and at 16 he was in the Eddie King band for five years, some of which were spent on the road after World War II. At 18 he was drafted in the Army for 38 months and was stationed at Ft. McPherson, ending his military career as Staff Sargeant. He was referred to as The Greek. In 1949 he worked for Dixie Bottle and Beverage Co., Atlanta, for 27 years. He then worked for National Distributing Company of Atlanta for four years and became sales manager after two months. He began working for Hamby and Poulos Insurance Agency in 1970 (now Hamby and Aloisio) instead of retiring. He worked at Hamby and Aloisio for over 24 years to present, still refusing to retire, and seeing his sons at work almost daily along with many other relatives. Victor has had great joy in his life acquiring and being survived by 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews, and wonderful friends and neighbors. He will be sorely missed by all. Visitation will be Friday, April 4, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at AS Turner and Sons Funeral Home, 2773 N.
