James "Jim" Wesley Bullard, 89, died Tuesday, January 5, 2016, due to heart failure. A native of Decatur, GA, he was born on September 5, 1926. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and wife of 41 years, Helen Leach. Jim is survived by his sister, Barbara Andrew (Norman) of Stone Mountain; three children: James Robert of Decatur, Patricia Kernan (Terry) of Acworth, Kathryn Opstad (Chris) of Decatur, and long-time loving companion, Nancy Reed of Decatur; four grandchildren: Jessica Boner (Mark), Chris Freeman (Rene'), Stephanie Silvia (Jason), and Chad Freeman; three step-grandchildren: Jarred (Christi) , Brett (Emy), and Lauren Opstad; six great-grandchildren: Corvin, Grady, Ella, Rylee, Alyssa, & Otis.
Jim was a life-long member of Midway Presbyterian Church in Decatur, where he served as both a Deacon and an Elder. He graduated from Avondale High School and began working at Sears Roebuck & Co. He later enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Pearl Harbor during World War II as a Sergeant Technician, receiving many decorations and citations of service. After the war, he returned to Sears full-time and studied business law at University of Georgia, receiving his Bachelors Degree. He retired from Sears as a Merchandise Buyer in 1986. Jim was also a member of the DeKalb Grand Juror's Association and Atlanta Cardiac Rehab Group for many years.
Jim was an avid golfer, devoted husband, father, friend, and companion. His strong faith helped him get through difficult times. As a loving man with countless friends, he dedicated his life to helping others.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, GA. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at Turner's and afterwards from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Decatur First Methodist Church – Fellowship Hall, 300 E. Ponce De Leon Ave., Decatur, GA 30030. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, 1024 Ponce de Leon Ave. NE, Atlanta, GA 30306-4216 or Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Dr., Atlanta, GA 30319.
