James William "Bill" Smith

Mr. James William “Bill” Smith, 91, of Avondale Estates, and formerly of Decatur, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Emory University Hospital.

Mr. Smith was born September 8, 1927 in Knoxville, Tennessee, son of the late William Corbin Smith and Lottie Lovenia White Smith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He loved God, Bobbie, family, singing, trains, vintage cars, and the Lady Vols (He was an avid sports fan.) He retired from the Southeastern Demurrage and Storage Bureau after over 30 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Bobbie J. Smith of Avondale Estates; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Wade Vickery of Decatur; a daughter, Karen Smith of Decatur; grandchildren, Jessica and Dr. Chadwick Roberts of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Jeremiah Heeter of Atlanta; great-grandchildren: Junior, Savannah, and Georgia Roberts; a brother, Paul Smith of Powell, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 27, 2019 in Decatur Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Peter Rhea Jones officiating. Military honors by the United States Army will follow.

Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to the American Heart Association in memory of Mr. James William Smith.
