Col. James William Vance, 89, passed away February 9, at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. He was born in Houlka, MS to his late parents, George and Velma Vance. COL Vance proudly served his country, and is a veteran of WWII and Vietnam. His military service included knocking out three Panzer tanks, on December 24th, 1944, during fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart twice in WWII. After the war, he attended Mississippi State University receiving a BS degree. He returned to active duty in 1952 as a 2 LT. After his retirement, Col Vance went into real estate working over 20 years in the Atlanta area. COL Vance was a decent, honest man who loved his family. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 12, from 1000-1100 at AS Turner Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Rd, Decatur, GA. Burial will follow at 1300 at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA. A 1500 memorial service will be held at the Decatur Presbyterian Chapel.Survivors include his loving wife, Anne Vance, daughter, Suzanne Bail, son, Barry Vance, and grandchildren, Brandon and Tyler Vance, and other relatives.
