Jan H. Serafy, 87, passed away on February 16, 2017 in Steamboat Springs, CO. Jan was born and raised in Atlanta. She attended E. Rivers Elementary School, North Fulton High School, and Brenau College in Gainesville. Jan was married to Victor Serafy for 58 years. She was a teacher, owner of a horseback riding camp, and sports travel camp for children. Her loves were her three sons, saving wildlife, and educating children. Jan's horseback career began at Brenau College, followed by time at Fritz Orr's club, where she directed the riding program for 27 years. She taught untold numbers of children at Fritz Orr's, Westminster, Camp Nakanawa in Tennessee, and Perry Mansfield Camp in Colorado, before opening her own riding school in Atlanta in 1976. Upon retiring, Jan moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, with her husband, Victor in 1993.
Jan is survived by her husband and her three sons, Ted, Grant, and Scott.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Abbey Chapel at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta with The Reverend Tim Black officiating. A private family burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society or the World Wildlife Fund.
