Jane Lois King

Mrs. Jane Lois Martin King, 90, was born November 5, 1926 in the Grant Park area, Atlanta, GA. She passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016.
Jane entered grammar school at the age of 4 and graduated from Girls High School in 1944.
Jane was employed by Bell South located in the Hurt Building, downtown Atlanta as an Equipment Draftsman. She then moved to the Central Office in Decatur as Chief Clerk in the Engineering Department. Jane became Secretary to a Chief Engineer and was promoted to Junior Engineer in Management. She was later promoted to Engineer at Bell South, Atlanta Division, becoming the first female Engineer at Bell South. Jane was later transferred to Equipment Revenue, answering to the FCC working with the Commissioner. She retired December 31, 1983, after 40 years of service. During her time at Bell South she also attended Georgia State College (night division) and training school in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Jane lived in the Grant Park area for 55 years attending Grant Park United Methodist Church where she started teaching Sunday School at the age of 14. She taught for approximately 25 years. She transferred her membership to Grace United Methodist Church and continued teaching children. One of her students was Timothy Tennent who went on to receive several degrees and became the President of Asbury Theological Seminary. Later her membership was transferred to Norcross First United Methodist Church where she is still a member.
Jane is survived by her husband of 45 years, Verlin W. King, one brother, Don Martin and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Norcross First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Brenda Westmoreland officiating. Burial will be at West Hill Cemetery, Dalton, GA at 3:00 pm. Visiting hours will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 22nd at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home, Decatur, GA.
