On January 17, 2008, DeWard Jane Vickery Morrison, 75, of Atlanta, lost her battle with colon cancer, a battle she had fought valiantly for eight years. Having endured countless rounds of chemotherapy and several surgical procedures, she remained her elegant self throughout each ordeal. She held the admiration of her family and her many friends for her strength of will and determination. Known for her strong Christian faith, she was supported throughout her illness by the prayers of individuals in a wide variety of religious denominations from Georgia to California. Mrs. Morrison was the daughter of the late Robert Kyme Vickery and the late Sarah Lucy Johnson Vickery. She was a 1953 graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She also earned a Master of Education in 1978 from Georgia State University and a Master of Business Administration in 1990 from Brenau College. She was a member of the Alpha Rho Chapter of Delta Delta Delta Sorority at the University of Georgia. She taught for a brief time in the DeKalb County School system and retired from Crawford Long Hospital of Emory University in 1998 after having worked there in several capacities over 20 years. Mrs. Morrison was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Decatur and regularly attended their Wednesday morning Bible Study sessions. She was an active volunteer with the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary for several years and was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Choral and instrumental music were always very important to her, and she sang with the Michael O'Neal Singers for several years and played both piano and organ to supplement the music programs at several area churches. Mrs. Morrison is survived by her husband of 52 years, Marion Alden Morrison; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Alden Morrison and Jennifer Payne Morrison of St. Simons Island, GA; one daughter and son-in-law, Lucylee Morrison Forsyth and Mickey Randall Forsyth, Jr.; and two grandchildren, Brittany Jane Forsyth and Dallis Randall Forsyth, all of Covington. GA.
