Janet Northrop Carter, 86, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2010. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was born April 18, 1924 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She grew up in Dedham, Massachusetts, attended Dedham High and graduated from Kents Hill School in Kents Hill, Maine. Janet and her husband, Bob, moved to Atlanta in 1950. They owned and operated Vent-A-Hood of Georgia. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert H. Carter; sons, Thomas Carter of Atlanta; Lawrence Carter of Decatur and his wife Kaye; daughters, Jean Richardson of Lilburn and her husband Steve; Janice Callison of Spartanburg, SC, and her husband Frank; grandchildren, Robert Richardson, Thomas Richardson, Carter Callison, Diana Callison, and Jackson Carter. Memorial services will be held Monday, August 30, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of A. S Turner & Sons with Rev. Beverley Elliott officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Janet’s memory to The American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at A. S Turner & Sons.
