Janet Claire Smith DeMille passed away Friday, January 1, 2010. Janet was born September 29, 1928 at Emory University Hospital, the daughter of Professor J. Morgan Smith and Dee Beatty Smith. The tower bells were rung at Peachtree Christian Church, where her family were members, in honor of her birth. Janet was the first baby this was done for in what became a long standing Atlanta tradition at Peachtree Christian. Living in the Morningside community, she attended Bass Jr. High and graduated from Washington Seminary, and later attended Agnes Scott College and Georgia State University. She was employed by the Coca Cola Company. In 1949 Janet married Harry W. DeMille, III and had four children, Harry L., Carol D. Bridges, Donald M. and David M. She is survived by her husband; Harry W. DeMille, III; her four children, three daughters-in-law, Alice K., Jennifer D., and Ruslana B.; two grandsons, Dale F. Bridges and Benjamin David DeMille. She is also survived by her brother, Jack M. Smith and his family who reside in Woodland Hills, California. Janet's charitable interest in life was the UNICEF program for children's welfare.
